Adrenal Adenomas Treatment

Adrenal glands are located on each kidney. Adrenal adenomas are not cancer of the adrenal gland tumor. They arise from the outer layer of the gland, called the adrenal cortex. Adrenal cortex usually produces hormones that fall into the steroid family. If an adrenal adenoma produces a hormone, it is called ‘function’, though this term makes them sound healthy when in fact the adenomas often produce an excessive number of steroid hormones. If adenoma does not produce a hormone called ‘non-functional’.

Most patients with adrenal adenoma will have no symptoms due to adenomas. However, even in patients with free symptoms, an investigation should reveal that many adrenal adenomas produce a number of abnormal steroid hormones for several degrees. The most common abnormalities are the production of too much cortical, steroid hormones involved in response to stress and energy balance. Adenomas that produce a large number of steroid hormones will cause clear symptoms. In large numbers of cortical causes Cushing syndrome, too much aldosterone causes Conn’s Syndrome, and excessive male sex steroids cause acne and hair growth. Rarely, bleeding may occur to adenomas and cause pain in the ribs or back.

Defective adrenal formations are usually accidentally detected in CT or MRI, which are run for other reasons. Not a functionally established clinical and legalized by determining the level of adrenal hormone, as described above. In the adrenal gland adrenal deficiency is rare, except in cases involving both glands.

More rarely, the mass in the adrenal glands is a cancer that has spread from other parts of the body, usually lungs or intestines (‘static meta’ ie cancer). Generally, the origin of cancer is obvious from clinical examination or from easy tests such as X-ray chest. In addition, the appearance of CT or MRI cancer metastasis in the adrenal gland can be distinguished from the adrenal benign adenoma by the use of specific radiology. The adrenal mass may also be adrenal cortex cancer (adrenocortical carcinoma). Although they are very rare, these cancers are usually large and can produce a combination of hormones.

Many adrenals may also arise from the inside of the adrenal glands, which are called adrenal back muscles, which are part of the nervous system and release Adrenaline and Adrenaline hormones. Adrenal back muscles are called phaeochromocytomas, and they can also be distinguished from adenomas by special scan techniques as well as blood and urine tests for Adrenaline and noradrenaline.
